The gift of education is one of the best gifts anyone can give a child. Education is not free in Uganda. Many of our children are from single family homes. Whether that is due to a father leaving the family to start another family or through death of a parent. Some children are total orphans. Some have parents who have HIV/AIDS and the parent wants a better life for their children and acknowledge that education is the start to that better life.
We enroll most of our children in boarding schools because the better quality schools are far from their villages and they cannot walk back and forth to school. Also, if they did go home there would not be 3 meals a day, no electricity, no water, and their parents would likely make them do home chores instead of studying for their classes. In boarding schools the students have study sessions in the evenings and weekends and the teachers live on campus.
With your sponsorship a child will receive school tuition and boarding fees as well as school supplies and requirements. School supplies include school uniform, socks and shoes, notebooks, pens, pencils, toilet paper, and brooms. The most common requirements for boarding students are a mattress, blanket, bed sheets, mosquito net, bathing and laundry soap, basin, jerrican, and a metal box to store all of their belongings.
The sponsorship can be paid in 3 different options: annually, by term, or monthly. Annually would be $500 for most children. The term payments are due in January ($250), April ($125) and July ($125). Monthly is $48 per month.
